Stalker sentenced for campaign of harassment

A stalker who left a woman frightened to be in her own home has been sentenced.

Ahmed Ali, aged 44, was first spotted loitering outside her child's school in Mansfield in May 2025.

The victim began to notice him parked outside three or four times a week, and near the bus stop she used to go to work.

On one occasion she saw him hiding behind a post box on a nearby street.

After he turned up outside the victim's home address with a bunch of flowers, we were called and Ali was spoken to about this behaviour.

However, despite this intervention he continued with this campaign of harassment by sending a letter of apology in which he introduced himself as a consultant doctor at King's Mill Hospital.

He then sent a succession of unwanted gifts and anonymous Facebook messages which left the woman feeling unsafe in her own home.

After Ali's arrest in September, officers seized his mobile phone and found evidence of the unwanted gifts, messages and a series of internet searches about the victim.

During his initial police interview Ali gave mostly no comment answers to the questions posed.

Although he'd had no professional contact with the woman, he later said that he'd accessed her patient record.

In August this year he pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm / distress.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday 16 September, Ali, of Quarry Dale View, Mansfield, was given a two-year suspended jail sentence and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also handed an indefinite restraining order forbidding any further contact with the victim.

Detective Constable James Lawrence said: "As the victim made clear in a statement to the court, Ali's behaviour left her and her daughter terrified.

"Even after his first interaction with the police he continued to escalate his behaviour and to cause further distress to his victim.

"With each passing day her fear of this man and his intentions towards her grew and grew until she was afraid to be in her own home.

"I am pleased for her and her family that this man has now been held to account.

"I hope this case also sends a message to other victims of stalking that if you call the police, we will take action to keep you safe."
