Newark and Sherwood District Council has adopted an updated Allocations and Development Management Plan following approval on 20 October.
The plan replaces the previous version from 2013 and identifies sites for future housing and employment development.
It introduces new policies covering affordable housing, housing mix and accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers.
The plan has undergone public consultation and independent examination, with a government-appointed inspector finding it suitable for adoption following recommended changes.
The council stresses that identifying sites does not automatically grant planning permission.
Work is already under way on a completely new Local Plan to address longer-term housing requirements, with public consultation expected in summer 2027.
